I really like this soup, made here without the spinach and using scotch bonnet, which is absolutely not the right chilli to use. Nonetheless this is creamy (albeit with no cream), luxurious and filling and quick. Would make again, and should try with spinach as I think that would really add a depth and make it a little less rich. From 1 2 3, pg. 232

Certainly a nice, simple soup with plenty of depth of flavour, though not totally blown away by it. I felt the need to add a dash of hot sauce and would do so again. Very good, but I would possibly chose other soups in preference. The toasted hazelnuts splashed with oil and salted, are a delight, so much so that I had more than eaten my portion of them long before it was time to plate up and felt the need to sadly deprive myself of them as a garnish in the soup itself. Oh well. From KD 2, pg.…

Honestly this is a large amount of meat that I would be very tempted to mix up with some veggies in the future. By the end I was feeling slightly greasy. It is also a fair amount of work with multiple processes and some waits, not necessarily suited to a week night However other than these minor nitpicks I can’t really fault this. The pork was sharp and delicious, the cauliflower and tahini puree was really wonderful and definitely a thing that can be used elsewhere. Turning into a big fan of tahini. The only other thing I might pay…

This is a lovely warming soup, quick, easy and cheap to make in bulk. Perhaps I’d turn down the heat a notch, but then on another day this could easily be just the ticket. Crisping the crispy onions up in the oven seems a faff, but is well worth it. I also squeezed a little lime over the soup just before serving to great affect. The only negative I can possibly attribute is that it was party to my hand blender blending its last, the motor giving up just as the final chunks of cauliflower were liquidised. Highly irritating. Tom Kerridge – Lose Weight, pg. 160 Many onions… too many? No puy lentils, so beans. Very nice, does work with beans, needs a good couple of good pinches of salt. Could punch up the meat with some flavour in the oven. Wouldn’t lose any of the onions.
